The Bright Journey medical team is preparing to return to Fiji to conduct cataract surgeries at the Colonial War Memorial Hospital in Suva. Wang Yuan, Minister-Counsellor of the Embassy of China in Fiji, announced that the team is expected to arrive soon. This mission continues the team’s longstanding commitment to providing vital eye care, having completed over 100 surgeries last year and more than 60 in 2023 alone.
Hu Jinjun, Minister of the Publicity Department of Guangdong Province, emphasized that the team’s visit exemplifies the growing partnership between Fiji and China. He referenced a mutual commitment made last year during discussions between Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka and President Xi Jinping, aimed at supporting each other in endeavors that benefit both nations, with an overarching goal of promoting peace in the Pacific region.
The ongoing collaboration has historically provided life-changing surgeries for many Fijians, significantly improving their quality of life while also reinforcing diplomatic and cultural ties. Over the years, the Bright Journey team has conducted free cataract surgeries, impacting the lives of over 200 individuals and earning the affectionate nickname “Angel of Light.”
This initiative not only addresses critical health concerns but also serves as a reminder of the positive impact of international partnerships. By facilitating healthcare improvements, such collaborative efforts play an essential role in fostering goodwill and enhancing the socio-economic landscape, promising a brighter future for all involved.
