The National Fire Authority (NFA) of Fiji is calling on citizens to take fire safety seriously following a devastating blaze that destroyed a double-storey home on Matana St, Nakasi, Nausori. Acting CEO Joel Israel reported that 13 firefighters worked tirelessly to combat the intense flames throughout Sunday night, successfully extinguishing the fire at 11:04 PM. Unfortunately, the structure was occupied by six individuals and has been deemed a total loss.

This incident serves as a stark reminder of how rapidly fires can escalate and underscores the importance of fire safety in every household. Mr. Israel emphasized that simple safety measures can make a significant difference in protecting lives. He encourages the community to conduct diligent checks of electrical wiring, eliminate flammable materials from areas near heat sources, ensure the installation and regular testing of smoke alarms, and maintain clear evacuation plans.

In response to this incident, the NFA has initiated a comprehensive investigation to determine the cause of the fire. By promoting awareness and education on fire safety protocols, the NFA aims to prevent future tragedies and protect families across Fiji.
