Acting Prime Minister and Minister for Local Government, Filimoni Vosarogo, has announced that the Cabinet has decided that the winner of the Miss Fiji Pageant will represent Fiji at the upcoming Miss Pacific Islands Pageant. This decision is expected to be respected by the organizers of the Miss Fiji Pageant (MFP).
In a statement issued this afternoon, Vosarogo emphasized the importance of adhering to Cabinet decisions, saying, “It needs to be understood that when Cabinet makes a decision on a matter, the expectation that such decision will be respected must follow. All processes, logistics, terms and arrangements, contractual or otherwise must align to the decision. This is not just any decision. It is the decision of the apex body of decision making of the government. One cannot turn that decision any way one likes.”
He also highlighted the involvement of public funds in these events, underscoring the significance of maintaining public confidence. The nation anticipates hosting the Miss Pacific Islands Pageant (MPIP) in 2026, marking seven years since Fiji last welcomed the gathering of Pacific Queens.
The Government of Fiji has committed $198,000 towards these two events through a Service Agreement dated December 3, 2025, with both the Miss Fiji Pageant and the Miss Pacific Islands Pageant. This funding decision was made by the Cabinet after reviewing a submission from the Ministry of Local Government & Housing in October 2025.
The hosting of the Miss Pacific Islands Pageant is expected to not only promote cultural exchange but also to foster local tourism and showcase the beauty of Fiji on a broader stage.
