The Fiji Meteorological Service has reported that Tropical Cyclone Urmil was positioned approximately 520 kilometers southwest of Nadi as of 6 a.m. today. The cyclone is currently moving southeast at a heightened speed of around 30 kilometers per hour.
While meteorologists do not predict that the center of Urmil will make direct landfall on Fiji, they alert that rainbands and powerful winds associated with the system are already affecting various areas within the nation.
The Weather Office is advising the public to remain vigilant and to heed all official weather updates coming from Nadi, along with directives from the National Disaster Management Office. Local authorities have particularly warned communities residing in low-lying and coastal regions to exercise caution due to the impending unpredictable weather patterns.
This situation highlights the critical need for preparedness and awareness amidst challenging weather conditions. Residents are encouraged to stay informed and take necessary steps to protect themselves and their property during this period. With community resilience and preparedness, the potential impacts of adverse weather can be effectively managed.
