Fiji and New Zealand are enhancing their collaborative efforts to combat drug-related issues and improve community policing measures. New Zealand’s High Commissioner, Greg Andrews, recently met with Fiji’s Minister for Policing and Communications, Ioane Naivalurua, to reaffirm the enduring partnership between the two nations.
During this meeting, which also served to honor the contributions of outgoing New Zealand Senior Police Liaison Officer Glyn Rowland, both parties expressed their commitment to advancing community policing initiatives. Naivalurua presented Fiji’s CVM–CMS framework, which emphasizes key aspects such as community policing, maritime security, good governance, and inter-agency collaboration.
Additionally, Naivalurua outlined the importance of engaging with church leaders and local communities as part of a nationwide effort to raise drug awareness. This collaboration marks a significant step towards addressing drug challenges and enhancing public safety through coordinated action. Both countries are optimistic about the positive impact of their continued cooperation in these priority areas, showcasing a united approach to complex social issues.
