The Fijian Government has formally launched a Strategic Partnership Program with the Asian Productivity Organization (APO) through the Ministry of Employment, Productivity and Workplace Relations. This agreement highlights the government’s commitment to improving productivity, enhancing the performance of the public sector, and supporting sustainable national development initiatives.

Building on an already established partnership with the APO, this new phase emphasizes a results-oriented approach that is in line with Fiji’s national development goals. Dr. Indra Pradana Singawinata, the Secretary-General of the APO, pointed out that this enduring collaboration showcases a robust alignment between the productivity principles essential for sustainable economic growth and Fiji’s development strategies.

Dr. Singawinata reiterated the APO’s dedication to assisting Fiji in boosting public sector efficiency. The support provided under this program will focus on establishing a Productivity Commission and improving training programs through local institutions.

Maritino Nemani, the Permanent Secretary for Employment and the APO Director for Fiji, referred to the agreement as a significant milestone for the nation. He stated that the program promotes a strategic and results-oriented approach aimed at enhancing productivity in both the public and private sectors, while also addressing crucial national sustainability and resilience objectives.

Nemani conveyed appreciation to national stakeholders for their leadership and commitment, acknowledging the ongoing technical assistance from the APO Secretariat in developing and finalizing the Strategic Partnership Program. This partnership represents a positive trajectory for Fiji, signaling an optimistic outlook on fulfilling its productivity and development aspirations.
