Queensland’s tourism sector is set to receive a significant lift with the announcement of new direct flights by Fiji Airways linking the Gold Coast to Nadi, Fiji. This initiative, supported by the Queensland government through its Destination 2045’s Connecting Queensland Fund, highlights the commitment to improving strategic flight links that connect Queensland to international destinations.

Tourism Minister Andrew Powell expressed pride in this development, emphasizing the government’s dedication to enhancing international connectivity for Queensland. The new flights are scheduled to begin on Thursday, 11 June 2026, establishing a crucial direct air link that fortifies the relationship between the Gold Coast and Fiji, while opening up fresh opportunities for international travelers.

Amelia Evans, CEO of Queensland Airports Limited, welcomed the new route, noting the popularity of Fiji as a prime vacation spot for Australians. She highlighted that this direct flight will streamline travel plans for those eager to explore the islands’ stunning landscapes and rich culture. Evans also pointed out the advantages for Fijian passengers, stating that the new flights will help reconnect families and friends separated by distance, enhancing the overall travel experience at Gold Coast Airport.

The newly introduced Fiji-Gold Coast route is expected to create additional travel options, particularly facilitating connections to the United States and Canada via Nadi. It is anticipated that this service could bring in approximately $51 million to the Queensland economy, positively impacting local businesses, including cafes, hotels, and tourism operators.

The introduction of these flights not only promises to enrich the travel experiences for tourists from both Australia and Fiji but also symbolizes a bright future for Queensland’s tourism industry. This development fosters a vibrant exchange of culture and hospitality between the two nations, paving the way for exciting adventures and connections for all travelers involved.
