Police are urging minors to avoid nightclubs and late-night venues this festive season, as reports of alcohol-related disturbances are increasing. Authorities are emphasizing the serious legal and lifelong consequences young people may face if they engage in underage drinking and disorderly behavior.
In an effort to enhance safety, officers have been deployed across major towns and cities to monitor nighttime activities and prevent alcohol-related offenses. Acting Police Commissioner Aporosa Lutunauga highlighted the importance of young individuals taking responsibility for their safety and future.
“Minors, please stay home and do something beneficial for yourselves. Think about your career and your future. Once you come into conflict with the law, we will apply the full extent of the law, which can jeopardize your career and your life,” Lutunauga remarked, acknowledging alcohol as a significant contributor to crime and disorder, especially during the festive season.
He elaborated on the traditional spike in nightlife-related incidents during this time, affirming that the police are well-prepared with additional manpower to oversee nightclubs and major urban areas.
Nightclub operators are also committing to responsible service, with owner Albert Chand stating that venues are implementing stricter security measures to deter minors from gaining access. “We need to be very particular and responsible about who we serve alcohol to. We have security officers in place to ensure that is taken care of, including our overnight manager who oversees operations,” he noted.
Additionally, law enforcement encourages parents and guardians to take an active role in discussing the potential dangers of nightlife, alcohol, and peer pressure with their children. This proactive approach is particularly crucial during a season that should be filled with celebration rather than regret.
