Mayor Eric Adams and Fire Department of the City of New York (FDNY) Commissioner Robert S. Tucker today announced the tragic line of duty death of Firefighter Patrick D. Brady, 42, who served the Department for 11 years. On Saturday, November 8, during an all-hands fire at 9407 Kings Highway in Brooklyn, Firefighter Brady experienced a medical emergency and went into cardiac arrest while operating on the roof of the structure. He was promptly assisted by his fellow firefighters and FDNY EMS before being transported to Brookdale University Hospital Medical Center, where he unfortunately passed away.

“Firefighter Patrick Brady gave his life protecting the city we all love; there is no sacrifice that is more selfless than the actions that took place this evening,” stated Mayor Adams. He highlighted that Firefighter Brady came from a family steeped in firefighting tradition, committed to safeguarding the lives of New Yorkers. The Mayor extended his deepest condolences to Brady’s wife, Kara, and their family during this challenging time.

“The entire FDNY is heartbroken over the loss of Firefighter Patrick Brady. He was a dedicated public servant, and firefighting was in his blood,” expressed Commissioner Tucker. He pointed out that the Department shares in the sorrow of Brady’s family, friends, and colleagues and emphasized the impact of this significant loss.

Brady became a member of the FDNY on July 14, 2014, and after completing his training at the Fire Academy, he was first assigned to Engine 227 in Brooklyn. In 2022, he transferred to Ladder 120. Residing in Queens, he is survived by his wife, Kara, as well as two brothers, Jimmy and Brian, who also serve as FDNY firefighters, along with several uncles and cousins in the FDNY.

Firefighter Patrick Brady is mourned as the 1,163rd member of the FDNY to die in the line of duty. The last FDNY member to have passed while serving was Paramedic Salih Abdur Rahman. Funeral arrangements for Firefighter Brady are currently pending.

This tragic event underscores the risks associated with firefighting and reflects the unwavering commitment of those who serve in the FDNY. The entire city stands in solidarity with Firefighter Brady’s family, honoring his dedication and service to New York.
