Minister for Public Enterprises, Multi-Ethnic Affairs, Culture, Heritage and Arts, Charan Jeath Singh, recently engaged with the Board, CEO, and senior management of Fiji Broadcasting Corporation Limited (FBCL) to evaluate the organization’s performance, strategic focus, and future prospects.

In their discussions, Minister Singh was informed of FBCL’s ambitious vision to emerge as the premier multimedia hub for Fiji and the broader Pacific region. The Board shared that radio remains the dominant medium in Fiji, holding the largest daily audience share, even as access to television and digital platforms continues to grow.

Additionally, Minister Singh received updates on the Pacific Multimedia Academy, which includes a drone operator certification program designed to enhance technical skills within the media industry. He lauded this initiative as a significant investment in local talent development and in improving professional standards in both broadcasting and digital media.

The Minister also pointed out that FBCL’s efforts to reduce reliance on the Public Service Broadcast Grant demonstrate its commitment to financial prudence and self-sustainability, coupled with effective strategic planning. In his remarks, he underscored the necessity for public enterprises to concentrate on their core responsibilities while upholding strong governance and profitability.

This proactive approach reflects optimism for the future of Fiji’s media landscape, particularly as FBCL seeks to adapt and thrive in an evolving digital environment.
