Minister for Public Enterprises, Multi-Ethnic Affairs, Culture, Heritage and Arts, Charan Jeath Singh, recently held discussions with the Board, CEO, and senior management of Fiji Broadcasting Corporation Limited (FBCL) to assess the organization’s performance, strategic direction, and future opportunities.
During these talks, Minister Singh learned about FBCL’s ambitious vision to position itself as the leading multimedia hub in Fiji and across the Pacific region. The Board highlighted that radio remains the most popular medium in Fiji, commanding the largest daily audience share, despite the increasing access to television and digital platforms.
Furthermore, Minister Singh was updated on the initiatives of the Pacific Multimedia Academy, which features a drone operator certification program aimed at enhancing technical skills in the media sector. He praised this initiative as a vital investment in developing local talent and raising professional standards in both broadcasting and digital media.
The Minister acknowledged FBCL’s efforts to lessen its dependency on the Public Service Broadcast Grant as a testament to its commitment to financial responsibility and self-sustainability, bolstered by effective strategic planning. He emphasized the importance of public enterprises focusing on their core duties while maintaining strong governance and profitability.
This proactive outlook is promising for the future of Fiji’s media landscape as FBCL endeavors to innovate and flourish in a rapidly changing digital environment. The combination of commitment to local talent development and financial prudence positions FBCL for success as it navigates these shifts.
