The Atlanta Falcons have confirmed that they will retain Jeff Ulbrich as their defensive coordinator for the upcoming 2026 season. This decision was announced on Monday morning, as the franchise looks to maintain continuity under new head coach Kevin Stefanski. Ulbrich has been awarded a new three-year contract, solidifying his role with the team.

Ulbrich, who joined the Falcons in the previous offseason under then-coach Raheem Morris, has a rich background in coaching. He was instrumental in guiding the Falcons’ defense, which ended the 2025 season ranked No. 15 in yards allowed and No. 19 in points allowed. His experience also includes a tenure as the defensive coordinator for the New York Jets from 2021 to 2024, where he stepped in as interim head coach in 2024 following the dismissal of Robert Saleh.

Originally a linebacker for the San Francisco 49ers from 2000 to 2009, Ulbrich has displayed resilience and adaptability throughout his coaching career. His previous stint with the Falcons from 2015 to 2020 saw him progress from linebackers coach to interim defensive coordinator in 2020 after Dan Quinn was let go.

With Ulbrich’s retention, the Falcons aim to build on their defensive performance as they head into a new chapter with coach Stefanski. His familiarity with the team and the players could be a pivotal factor in enhancing the squad’s overall performance in the coming years.
