CHARLOTTE, N.C. – In response to the frigid temperatures following a recent winter storm, several school districts in the Charlotte area and beyond are adjusting their schedules for Tuesday. The cold snap, resulting from the storm that hit over the weekend, is expected to bring dangerously low temperatures and icy conditions.

On Tuesday morning, temperatures are predicted to be uncomfortably low, prompting some school districts to cancel classes or switch to virtual learning formats. An extreme cold warning has been issued for specific counties in Western North Carolina, including Ashe, Avery, and Watauga, valid from 6 PM Monday through noon Tuesday. With wind chill factors taken into account, temperatures may feel as cold as 20 degrees below zero.

For other areas within the Charlotte region, a cold weather advisory is in effect. This advisory follows a weekend winter storm that resulted in varying levels of precipitation, including snow and sleet, which have contributed to icy road conditions. Although some of the ice began to melt during the day on Monday, expectations are that much of it will refreeze overnight due to the ongoing cold weather.

Residents are encouraged to stay informed about the weather conditions and possible school closures by checking local resources. The First Alert Weather team provides updated forecasts, and residents can share their winter weather photos and videos, which may be showcased on WBTV’s platforms.

The community is advised to exercise caution on the roads and to stay warm as the winter weather continues to impact the region. With proper care and attention, residents can safely navigate these challenging conditions.
