Ruemmler, now general counsel at Goldman Sachs, accepted numerous extravagant gifts from Epstein, including a $9,400 Hermes handbag and a spa trip at the Four Seasons in Washington, D.C. in August 2016.
In correspondence dated around the time of these gifts, Ruemmler expressed excitement about her spa day, indicating that she felt she deserved pampering after “winning her case.” She described the treatments, which could cost up to $1,000, and arranged details with enthusiasm. Following this, Epstein reportedly arranged for a luxury handbag to be sent to her, to which Ruemmler responded with delight, calling it “so beautiful.”
In addition to the handbag, Ruemmler received floral arrangements and a Hermes-branded Apple Watch worth $1,300 as a Thanksgiving gift in 2018. Her gratitude was evident in her responses, expressing her affection for the Hermes brand. The correspondence between Ruemmler and Epstein spans from 2014 to 2019 and includes plans for additional gifts such as jewelry, further complicating Ruemmler’s previous statements that she “was not compensated” for any work associated with Epstein.
Goldman Sachs spokesperson Tony Fratto remarked on the situation, acknowledging that Epstein had a history of offering unsolicited gifts to his business contacts. It’s worth mentioning that the emails and gifts occurred after Epstein pleaded guilty to soliciting a minor for prostitution in 2008, raising ethical concerns about Ruemmler’s associations.
Furthermore, communications revealed advice that Ruemmler provided Epstein regarding public relations strategy for an article by The Washington Post, indicating her involvement in navigating his legal troubles.
