Emma Stone Shaves Head for Bugonia, Lanthimos Shaves His Hair in Solidarity

Emma Stone recently took a bold step by agreeing to shave her head for her role in the upcoming film “Bugonia,” but she made it clear that she had one crucial condition before undergoing this dramatic transformation. The Academy Award-winning actress insisted that the film’s director, Yorgos Lanthimos, also shave his head in a show of solidarity.

The role required Stone to keep a buzzed look throughout the filming process, necessitating regular maintenance by the hair and makeup team, who re-shaved her head every three days to ensure consistency. Reflecting on her commitment, Stone said, “When I knew we were gonna do this … I said to Yorgos, ‘We’re gonna have to shave your head too so that we’re in solidarity.’ And he’s like, ‘Okay.’”

True to his word, Lanthimos allowed Stone to take the clippers to his hair; however, the actress admitted that the experience did not quite match her expectations. “It was exciting but it wasn’t as exciting as I thought it would be to shave his head,” she confessed. “It was cool, but it felt more dramatic, my shave. I don’t mean to brag, but my hair was pretty long, and his was not.”

This collaboration marks another chapter in the longstanding partnership between Stone and Lanthimos, as “Bugonia” is their fourth project together, following notable films like “The Favourite,” “Kinds of Kindness,” and “Poor Things.” The latter earned her a second Best Actress Oscar, underscoring the success of their artistic synergy.

The decision to shave her head is not only a testament to Stone’s dedication to her craft but also showcases the collaborative spirit they share, which might inspire other actors to fully immerse themselves in their roles. As the film industry continues to embrace bold transformations, Stone’s journey in “Bugonia” promises to deliver a striking performance that resonates with audiences.
