The Elon women’s basketball team is set to return to the Schar Center after nearly a month when they take on Longwood this Sunday, December 14, at 1 p.m. ET. This matchup brings together the Phoenix, who currently hold a record of 3-5, and the Lancers, boasting a 7-4 record.

In their previous meeting last season on November 26, 2024, Elon claimed victory with a 74-67 win on the road, and they will be looking to extend their series lead, which currently stands at 14-7 in favor of the Phoenix.

Elon’s previous game saw them challenge East Carolina, where they forced a season-high 29 turnovers but ultimately fell 64-53. Notably, LaNae’ Corbett matched her season-high score, contributing 14 points on an efficient 50% shooting. Quinzia Fulmore made waves as well, recording her first double-digit rebounding game with 10 boards, while Ashanti Fox provided a spark off the bench with 13 points and six assists, marking her second double-figure scoring game of the season.

The Phoenix’s defense has proven to be a formidable force, having restricted five of their eight opponents to shooting 25% or worse from beyond the arc, including a stellar performance against East Carolina, where they held them to just 15.8% from three-point range.

Freshman Tamia Watkins was recognized as the CAA Rookie of the Week on November 30, averaging 7.7 points and 4.0 rebounds over three games while demonstrating consistent improvement throughout the early season. She currently ranks second on the team in rebounds and is lauded for her shooting efficiency.

Tyana Walker, another transfer adding depth to the team, scored a season-high 22 points against Tulane at the Paradise Jam while maintaining a proficient three-point shooting percentage. With these contributions, Walker leads the team with 12 made three-pointers.

Elon’s mix of experienced transfers like Fulmore and Corbett, complemented by the energy of newcomers, provides a promising outlook for the remainder of the season as they look to capitalize on their strengths against Longwood and improve their overall record.
