Virginia Tech holds a historical edge over Elon in men’s basketball, leading the all-time series 13-7 since their first matchup in 1914. The Hokies have secured victory in all three encounters since Elon became a Division I program in 1999, with the last contest occurring in 2008. Virginia Tech head coach Mike Young, during his previous stint at Wofford, faced Elon 17 times, achieving a 9-8 record against them when both teams were Southern Conference rivals.

As the Phoenix (7-4) head to Blacksburg, Virginia, they will aim to extend their three-game winning streak against the Hokies (10-2) on Saturday afternoon. This engaging matchup is scheduled for a 2 p.m. ET tipoff at Cassell Coliseum and will be broadcast on ACC Network Extra.

Elon has enjoyed a strong showing in recent games, winning their last two road contests by staggering margins. Their most notable victory occurred on November 24, when they triumphed over Appalachian State 88-53—their largest road win in the Division I era. Following that, they defeated Wofford 73-52. Additionally, Elon achieved an impressive victory against Richmond, winning 73-70, and demonstrating resilience by overcoming a six-point halftime deficit.

Elon’s leading scorer, graduate forward Cuthrell, is having a standout season, averaging 21.5 points per game and ranking among the nation’s top scorers. Cuthrell has shifted from a modest scoring average earlier in his career to being a critical offensive threat at Elon, registering a shooting percentage of 53.4% from the field. His ability to draw fouls is also remarkable, prompting 94 free throw attempts so far, with a conversion rate of 70.2%.

Supporting Cuthrell’s efforts, Elon ranks first in the Colonial Athletic Association for three-pointers made and attempted per game. Despite a lower performance against Northern Illinois, the Phoenix bounced back in their recent win against Richmond, marking their seventh game of the season with double-digit three-pointers made.

Elon will conclude its nonconference schedule against Greensboro College on Monday, further solidifying their momentum as they progress through the season. Fans are encouraged to support Elon Athletics through various platforms, ensuring an exciting atmosphere for the Phoenix’s upcoming games.
