Ellington Wharf in Rakiraki has officially reopened, marking a considerable enhancement in transport connectivity and economic activity within the Ra region. The ceremony was led by Ro Filipe Tuisawau, Fiji’s Minister for Public Works, Meteorological Services and Transport, who highlighted the government’s commitment to improving critical transport infrastructure across the nation.
During his address, Ro Filipe emphasized the strategic significance of the wharf in improving travel links between Rakiraki and Nabouwalu. The upgraded facility is expected to streamline the movement of passengers and goods, providing essential support to local businesses and communities. The project involved extensive upgrades to the wharf as well as improvements to access roads. The Fiji Roads Authority was responsible for sealing 366 meters of road within the jetty area, along with the installation of five streetlights, to enhance safety and accessibility for all users.
Ro Filipe also offered his gratitude to the engineers, contractors, and community leaders whose efforts contributed to the successful completion of the project.
