Ellington Wharf in Rakiraki has officially reopened, representing a significant improvement in transport connectivity and economic activity in the Ra region. The reopening ceremony was officiated by Ro Filipe Tuisawau, the Minister for Public Works, Meteorological Services and Transport, who emphasized the government’s dedication to enhancing critical transport infrastructure throughout the nation.

During the event, Ro Filipe underscored the strategic importance of the wharf in facilitating travel between Rakiraki and Nabouwalu. The upgraded facility is anticipated to ease the movement of passengers and goods, providing crucial support to local businesses and the surrounding communities. He expressed optimism that the improvements will lead to safer, more reliable transportation options for both freight and passengers, ultimately enhancing access to markets and stimulating regional development.

The project involved not only upgrades to the wharf but also included road enhancements, with the Fiji Roads Authority sealing 366 meters of road within the jetty area and adding five streetlights to improve safety and accessibility for all users.

Ro Filipe extended his gratitude to the engineers, contractors, and community leaders who contributed to the project and encouraged ongoing collaboration among stakeholders to ensure the facility’s long-term sustainability. With the reopening of Ellington Wharf, a bright future looms for economic activity in Ra and its neighboring areas, fostering growth and connectivity that benefits the entire region.
