A significant water main break in Northeast El Paso on Sunday severely impacted water service for thousands of residents, affecting approximately 15 area reservoirs. The incident, described as a “very large water main” break, occurred early in the day amid freezing temperatures near the intersection of Transmountain Road and Girl Scout Way, close to Skyline Optimist Youth Park, as reported by El Paso Water spokesperson Denise Parra.

Earlier reports highlighted another major break on a 36-inch water main on Antonio Avenue within the same neighborhood. This critical pipeline connects to several smaller distribution lines, and El Paso Water indicated that it may take several hours, possibly up to 24, to restore service to all affected customers. Complete repairs for the main could extend over days.

Residents still receiving water service on Sunday may experience outages later due to crews refilling reservoirs and stabilizing the water system. To prepare, utility officials advised those with water to fill containers or bathtubs as a precaution.

In an effort to assist residents, El Paso Water is deploying tanker trucks to provide essential water supply at various parks, including Sue Young Park, Arlington Park, Sunrise Park, and LTC Robert “Bob” Chisolm Park, where community members can access water.

El Paso Water expressed gratitude for customers’ patience and understanding while work is underway to restore service as quickly and safely as possible. The situation highlights the challenges of maintaining water infrastructure, especially during inclement weather, and the importance of community support during emergencies.
