Edwards heats up as Timberwolves cruise past Kings

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Anthony Edwards delivered an outstanding performance with 26 points, four rebounds, five assists, and two steals, leading the Minnesota Timberwolves to a commanding 144-117 victory over the Sacramento Kings on Sunday night. This win marks a continuation of Edwards’ impressive form, following a remarkable 37-point effort in a previous game against the Utah Jazz.

Edwards showcased his scoring ability, shooting 7 for 16 from the field and an impressive 5 for 11 from beyond the arc, while also converting 7 of 8 free throw attempts. Over the last two games, he has hit 12 of 23 three-point attempts, reflecting a significant uptick in his long-range shooting.

The Timberwolves had strong contributions from Jaden McDaniels, who chipped in 21 points, while Julius Randle and Rudy Gobert added 19 points each. On top of his scoring, Gobert was a defensive force, grabbing 12 rebounds and blocking five shots. Naz Reid also made a notable impact off the bench with 13 points.

For the Kings (3-7), Zach LaVine led the scoring with 26 points and DeMar DeRozan contributed 22 points. Domantas Sabonis returned from injury to score 20 points and secured 13 rebounds, but the team struggled to find consistency, suffering their third loss in four games.

Edwards faced an early shooting slump, missing his first five attempts before making a pivotal three-pointer that ignited his scoring run. With 16 points in the second quarter alone, he capitalized on his opportunities, leading the Timberwolves to a 71-54 halftime advantage. Minnesota’s offensive prowess shined in this game, scoring a total of 64 points in the paint.

In the middle of the third quarter, Kings fans began calling for Keon Ellis, who finally took the court to start the fourth quarter after a long wait on the bench.

The Timberwolves will next face the Utah Jazz on Monday night, while the Kings are set to host the Denver Nuggets on Tuesday. With both teams looking to build momentum, this week’s matchups promise exciting action as the NBA season progresses.
