Tickets for Dune: Part Three in IMAX 70mm at the Indiana State Museum went on sale April 6 and quickly proved a hot commodity, with evening screenings snapped up within minutes and some customers reporting website crashes and missed notifications. The museum’s IMAX Theatre is among a small group of venues nationwide slated to show Denis Villeneuve’s concluding installment of the sci‑fi saga in the larger, taller 70mm IMAX format when the film opens later this year.

Dune: Part Three is scheduled to open over the Dec. 17–20, 2026 weekend, with a U.S. release date of Dec. 18. Tickets for the Indiana State Museum’s 7 p.m. showings were the first to sell out, prompting disappointed patrons to flood the theater’s social channels with complaints about the sale process. “Website crashed for me and i wasn’t even able to see seats,” one user wrote. Another asked why advance notice had not been sent to Director’s Club members.

The theater responded to the backlash on social media, reassuring customers that more screenings will be added. “Have no fear, additional showtimes will be added in the future!” the venue posted, adding that fans who missed the initial sale would have more opportunities to secure seats as the schedule expands.

IMAX 70mm presentations are rare, and exhibitors say the format offers a markedly bigger image and heightened visual impact compared with standard digital screenings — a selling point for a franchise known for its epic landscapes and immersive production design. Indianapolis is listed alongside other North American cities where the 70mm IMAX presentation will be available, including Atlanta, Dallas, Los Angeles, Miami, New York, Philadelphia, Phoenix, Rochester (N.Y.) and San Francisco. International markets such as London, Melbourne, Toronto and Vancouver are also slated to host 70mm showings.

The high demand for premium-format tickets follows a trend for event releases that push fans toward the few theaters capable of handling film prints and larger IMAX hardware. Moviegoers eager for the most cinematic experience have prioritized 70mm and IMAX showings in recent years, making those limited seats a frequent target during early ticket drops.

Dune: Part Three reunites much of the series’ ensemble, led by Timothée Chalamet and Zendaya, and features Robert Pattinson, Javier Bardem, Florence Pugh, Anya Taylor-Joy, Rebecca Ferguson and Jason Momoa among its cast. With the Indiana State Museum and other premium venues preparing for a concentrated surge in demand, theaters are already adjusting schedules to accommodate fans seeking the full big‑screen spectacle in December.
