Duke’s Cameron Boozer Emerges as Best Player, Krzyzewski Says

The No. 6 Duke Blue Devils have commenced the 2025 college basketball season with an impressive 2-0 record. Under the leadership of head coach Jon Scheyer, the team features a blend of returning talent from last year’s Final Four run, highlighted by the remarkable freshman Cooper Flagg, the No. 1 overall pick in 2025. However, the current focus has quickly shifted towards a new class of promising freshmen.

Legendary Duke coach Mike Krzyzewski recently praised the team’s standout player during an appearance on CBS Sports’ Jon Rothstein podcast. He identified five-star freshman Cameron Boozer as the “best player” for the Blue Devils this season, highlighting his impressive skills despite his young age. “Cam is our best player… He has the body of a man, great feet, and an understanding of the game. He’s really an intelligent player,” Krzyzewski remarked, suggesting that Boozer’s abilities position him among the top talents in college basketball.

Boozer has made an immediate impact, averaging 20.0 points, 10.5 rebounds, 3.5 assists, 1.5 steals, and 1.0 blocks per game in the early part of the season. The five-star recruit is not alone in his efforts — his twin brother, Cayden Boozer, has also stepped up, contributing 8.0 points, 5.0 rebounds, and 3.5 assists per game.

Duke’s roster is bolstered by returning players Isaiah Evans, Caleb Foster, Maliq Brown, and Patrick Ngongba, all expected to play crucial roles this season. Additionally, freshmen Dame Sarr and Nikolas Khamenia are beginning to make their presence felt, adding depth to the team.

Coach Krzyzewski, who built a storied legacy over 42 seasons at Duke before his retirement in 2022, has always praised the potential of Duke’s freshman classes. The former coach noted that this year’s team reflects a new chapter and expressed confidence in its capabilities. The synergy of experienced players and talented newcomers provides hope for a successful season as the Blue Devils strive for greatness once again.
