In a remarkable yet mixed outing for the Indian cricket team, all-rounder Shivam Dube faced criticism despite the team’s comfortable 72-run victory over Zimbabwe in the T20 World Cup Super 8 clash. While India clinched the win, Dube’s bowling performance raised eyebrows as he conceded 46 runs in just two overs, including four wides and a no-ball that landed outside the pitch. Former England captain Michael Vaughan expressed his disappointment, suggesting that such performances could indicate India’s struggles in future matches.

Vaughan noted that the situation allowed Dube to bowl those overs, indicating that the match was effectively sealed in India’s favor. “The sixth bowling option has gone for 46 in two overs. If it were another game, I am not sure he (Dube) bowls those two overs. The skipper knew he was through in terms of the win and just gave him a couple of overs,” Vaughan commented on Cricbuzz. He remained optimistic about India’s prospects, remarking that despite the hiccup, the team is still a formidable contender in the tournament.

In a thrilling display of batting, Abhishek Sharma and Hardik Pandya led India to a commanding total of 256 for four, marking the highest score of the tournament. Abhishek made a rapid 55 off just 30 balls, partnering with Sanju Samson, who scored 24, to provide a solid foundation after Zimbabwe won the toss and opted to bowl. Contributions from Ishan Kishan (38) and Suryakumar Yadav (33) further bolstered the innings, with Pandya finishing strongly with an unbeaten 50 off 23 balls, supported by Tilak Varma, who scored 44 not out from just 14 deliveries.

Zimbabwe’s response saw Brian Bennett shine with an impressive unbeaten 97, although they could only manage 184 for six in their 20 overs. Indian pacer Arshdeep Singh emerged as the standout bowler for India, claiming three wickets for 24 runs. Zimbabwe’s bowlers, including Richard Ngarava, Blessing Muzarabani, Tinotenda Maposa, and skipper Sikandar Raza, faced challenges in containing India’s aggressive batting display.

With this victory, India reaffirmed its position as a strong contender for the T20 World Cup, showing resilience and skill as they aim for a semifinal berth.
