SWIRE Shipping Fijian Drua head coach Glen Jackson expressed strong confidence in the significance of the club’s development team as they gear up for the exciting 2026 season of the Shop N Save Super Rugby Pacific competition. Jackson underscored the crucial role of the development squad, highlighting it as a prime example of the club’s commitment to nurturing talent.
“Always massively important,” Jackson stated when asked about the development team during a recent content day at the Drua’s base in Legalega, Nadi. He pointed out that the club has been particularly successful in integrating development players into the senior squad, a claim that reflects the organization’s dedication to fostering young talent.
Following the recent announcement of the squad, Jackson emphasized the potential of the newly promoted players to step up in their roles. A total of 12 players were introduced, ready to fill the vacancies left by former development players promoted to the first team, including Isoa Tuwai and Aisea Nawai.
Jackson expressed no apprehension about giving opportunities to these young athletes in the Super Rugby arena. “I don’t have any concerns about bringing a young boy out into Super Rugby, so some of these development (players) could easily play again for Super Rugby,” he noted, reinforcing his belief in their capabilities.
The development players, who are set to play a vital role in the team’s ambitions, are under the guidance of coach Nemani Nadolo-Kuridrani, whose experience and knowledge of winning rugby are considered invaluable. Jackson praised Nadolo-Kuridrani for providing mentorship and guidance to the young squad members, which he believes will greatly benefit their growth.
The twelve development players announced by the club are Bogi Kikau, Breyton Legge, Harold Rounds, JD Sivivatu Kanth, Jeneiro Wakeham, Joshua Uluibau, Joweli Walevu, Kalioni Ratunabuabua, Maleli Nauvasi, Moses Armstrong-Ravula, Pita Manamanaivalu, and Sairusi Ravudi.
The Fijian Drua’s forward-thinking approach to development not only showcases their commitment to their players but also reflects a hopeful outlook for the upcoming season. As the franchise continues to develop its young talents, fans can anticipate exciting performances and growth from both new and seasoned players alike.
