The Fijian Drua are set to implement significant changes to their starting line-up as they look to end a two-match losing streak against the formidable Hurricanes in Lautoka on Saturday. The Drua have struggled in their initial games this season, suffering losses in both encounters, while the Hurricanes come off a commanding 52-10 victory against Moana Pasifika.

Despite the rocky start, Drua head coach Glen Jackson remains optimistic about the challenge ahead. He noted that the expected rain could impact the game positively, creating an exciting atmosphere for the fans. “It’s going to be a great game. There’s a fair bit of rain around, and that will bring the heat down. It will be awesome to have a massive crowd. Everyone knows we love to play in the wet,” Jackson stated. He also highlighted the competitive nature of past matchups against the Hurricanes, expressing eagerness for the upcoming clash.

In a key development, Jackson announced that sevens star Joji Nasova will make his debut, taking the wing position. “Joji is going to get his debut. He has been good in his transition from 7s into the Flying Fijians, so we are excited to see him perform. He is a quality player and quality man,” Jackson remarked.

However, the Drua are dealing with injury concerns as co-captain Temo Mayanavanua is set to be sidelined for approximately six weeks due to a knee injury sustained during the match against the Waratahs. Although the injury is not as severe as initially feared, Jackson acknowledged the significant loss of Mayanavanua’s leadership on the field.

The Drua’s squad also faces notable transitions, as two prominent players from the Fijiana Drua camp, flanker Elia Canakaivata and wing Ponipate Loganimasi, have signed contracts with the Sale Sharks in the United Kingdom. Both players have been instrumental to the Drua’s achievements, and their departure is expected to leave a substantial gap. “Losing quality players like that is not ideal for us. I know the Sale Sharks are a good team, and he’ll be great over there,” Jackson commented on Canakaivata’s move, expressing regret over their short tenure with the team.

The Drua will take on the Hurricanes at 3:35 PM Fiji Time on Saturday at Churchill Park in Lautoka, and fans are hopeful that this match could mark a turning point for the Fijian team as they aim for their first win of the season.
