SWIRE Shipping Fijian Drua’s co-captain Temo Mayanavanua will miss the upcoming Super Rugby Pacific match against the Hurricanes at Churchill Park due to an injury sustained during last week’s game against the Waratahs. Head Coach Glen Jackson expressed the gravity of the situation, highlighting Mayanavanua’s leadership on the field. “It’s a massive loss for him and for us as well. He leads our team very well on the field, so missing him for six weeks at this stage is a big blow,” Jackson stated.

As the Drua prepares for their critical home match against the Hurricanes, adjustments to the lineup will be necessary. Jackson noted the significance of the clash, saying, “It’s a great game. The Hurricanes have been doing a lot of work in their very flash environment around heat work, and we’ve always had pretty good games against the Hurricanes. We’re looking forward to a good crowd there.”

In addition to Mayanavanua’s absence, the Drua will also lose Elia Canakaivata and Poni Loganimasi, who have signed two-year deals with the Sale Sharks starting in the 2026/27 season. Jackson praised Canakaivata’s exceptional commitment, especially considering his age, and acknowledged the challenge of losing quality players. He recognized the strength of the Sale Sharks, indicating that both players would excel in their new environment.

Despite the setbacks, the Drua remains focused and determined to put forth a strong performance in the upcoming match, aiming to rally support from their home crowd. This resilience and commitment could serve as a catalyst for the team to rise to the occasion in a challenging moment, fostering hope among fans and players alike.
