A DoorDash delivery driver has been banned from the platform after an alarming incident in Evansville, Indiana, where she allegedly sprayed a customer’s food with an unidentified substance, believed to be pepper spray. This unsettling act was captured on the family’s doorbell camera in the early hours of Sunday morning.

Mark Cardin and his wife, Mandy, had just received their Arby’s order when the driver took a moment to snap a confirmation photo. However, before leaving, she pulled out a canister from her pocket and sprayed the food, all while being recorded by the camera. Following the delivery, the couple, unaware of the tampering, began consuming their meal.

Shortly after, Mandy began to choke and struggle to breathe. Cardin recounted the frightening moment, stating, “I noticed my wife had starting eating and she started choking and gasping, and after she had a couple bites of her food she actually threw up.” Alarmed by her sudden illness, he inspected the order and noticed the bag had been tampered with, prompting him to review the doorbell footage, which revealed the driver’s disturbing actions.

In his efforts to identify the driver, Cardin posted images and video footage on Facebook, seeking assistance from the online community. He attempted to reach out to the driver, only to find she had blocked him on the app. After reporting the incident to DoorDash, Cardin learned that the Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s Office has opened an investigation into the situation.

A spokesperson for DoorDash responded, stating that the company has a zero-tolerance policy for such behavior, emphasizing that the driver has been permanently removed from the platform and that they are cooperating with law enforcement in the ongoing investigation. Cardin has expressed his desire for the driver to face legal consequences, noting, “I definitely want to see her prosecuted.”

The investigation could potentially lead to charges of consumer product tampering, categorized as a level 6 felony, which could be escalated if any harm resulted from the act. In the wake of this frightening episode, Cardin urged other food delivery users to exercise caution with their orders and consider installing surveillance systems to deter potential tampering.

“This incident has made me second guess ever ordering food from anywhere again,” Cardin lamented, highlighting a growing concern about safety in food delivery services. The community remains hopeful that this investigation will lead to justice and reinforce the importance of vigilance among consumers.
