Doechii has wrapped up 2025 with an exciting collaboration alongside SZA, releasing the new single “Girl, Get Up” following her recent performances in Australia for Spilt Milk. This hypnotic track is complemented by a visually striking music video directed by James Mackel, which was filmed in various locations across Sydney. The video features Doechii dancing solo on a yacht and atop a stadium rooftop, with the Sydney Harbour Bridge beautifully illuminated in the background.

In the climactic final scene, Doechii is seen above an empty stage at Allianz Stadium, a venue where she opened for Kendrick Lamar during her time in Australia. Musically, “Girl, Get Up” is a minimalist composition that allows the powerful lyrics to take center stage. With production by Jay Versace, the track creatively incorporates a drum sample from Birdman and Clipse’s “What Happened to That Boy,” layering it with airy synths and sharp verses from Doechii.

In her verses, Doechii challenges negativity with lines like, “Hate don’t make you powerful / Y’all monitoring spirits, go monitor that checkbook…” SZA enhances the track with a soft yet commanding hook, repeating the mantra, “Hear me girl, get up,” which lends the song a dual vibe of meditation and motivation.

This isn’t the first time the two talented artists have teamed up; SZA previously joined Doechii on her single “Persuasive” and made an appearance at her Camp Flog Gnaw set last year. “Girl, Get Up” serves as the concluding piece of Doechii’s Swamp Sessions series, an innovative project where she wrote and recorded songs in just an hour, ensuring each entry was paired with well-thought-out visuals. The series also includes tracks like “Nissan Altima,” “Bullfrog,” and “Catfish.”

The release of “Girl, Get Up” caps off a remarkable year for Doechii, especially following her Grammy-winning album, Alligator Bites Never Heal, released in 2024. The standout moment of this year was her track “Anxiety,” which gained viral success on TikTok, securing her five Grammy nominations, including Record and Song of the Year. James Mackel, who directed the visuals for “Anxiety,” continues to collaborate with Doechii, highlighting her artistic evolution and consistent presence in the music industry.

In addition to “Anxiety,” Doechii has also released solo tracks like “Nosebleeds” this year, along with a slew of collaborations, including “ExtraL” with Jennie and “Beat a Bitch Up” with Alameda, along with a remix featuring The Weeknd and Playboi Carti on “Timeless.” With each release, Doechii solidifies her place as a rising star in the music industry, leaving fans eager for what’s next in her ever-evolving career.
