Prominent quarterback DJ Lagway, who previously played at Florida, has made his transfer to Baylor official, as reported by Hayes Fawcett of On3 Sports. This news comes after a period of speculation regarding his future, with Baylor emerging as the destination of choice.

Initially mentioned among potential suitors alongside Miami and LSU, Baylor ultimately won out in securing Lagway’s commitment. His visits to Florida State and Virginia, as highlighted by ESPN’s Pete Thamel, contributed to the anticipation surrounding his decision.

Lagway, a former 5-star recruit and the second-ranked quarterback in the 2024 recruiting class according to 247Sports’ composite rankings, faced high expectations upon his arrival at Florida. However, his on-field performance in his two years with the Gators was marked by inconsistency. Over his freshman year, he completed nearly 60% of his passes, throwing for 1,915 yards, 12 touchdowns, and nine interceptions. Despite these numbers, challenges continued into his sophomore season, where he struggled significantly, notably throwing five interceptions in a key matchup against LSU.

Although Lagway demonstrated flashes of potential, he was unable to fully crystallize into the star player Florida was counting on. With a fresh start at Baylor, there is optimism that Lagway’s collegiate journey will allow him to tap into his considerable talent. The Bears, who finished with a disappointing 5-7 record last season, are hopeful that this change will reinvigorate their offense as they look ahead to the upcoming season under head coach Dave Aranda.

With Lagway at the helm, Baylor may find renewed hope as it seeks to improve in a competitive Big 12 landscape. This move not only reflects Lagway’s desire to refine his skills but also presents Baylor with the opportunity to build around a quarterback who still holds promise for a successful collegiate career.
