Andrew Gunn, a renowned film producer celebrated for his significant contributions to Disney, has tragically passed away at the age of 58. His family shared that Gunn succumbed to complications from amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), a condition he had been battling since 2024, in his home located in Toronto.

Gunn’s impressive career included a first-look deal with Disney, where he played a vital role in the development of numerous beloved films. His impressive list of credits includes popular titles such as The Country Bears, Freaky Friday, The Haunted Mansion, Sky High, College Road Trip, Bedtime Stories, Race to Witch Mountain, Cruella, and Freakier Friday.

Beyond his production work, Gunn was also a passionate advocate for emerging talent in the film industry. In 2001, he initiated the Disney Writers Program, which aimed to mentor unproduced screenwriters. Each year, the program selected five up-and-coming writers to guide and support in developing their careers. This initiative has been instrumental in launching the careers of several notable writers, including David Berenbaum, known for Elf, Matt Lopez, who wrote the 2022 remake of Father of the Bride, and David DiGilio, a co-creator of The Terminal List.

Andrew Gunn is survived by his children, wife Jane Bellamy Gunn, mother Anne Gunn, and siblings Hilary Knight, Graeme Gunn, and Cameron Gunn. He was predeceased by his father, Charles Gunn. His legacy will continue through the many projects he brought to life and the talent he nurtured over the years.
