Aditya Dhar’s film “Dhurandhar,” released on December 5, 2025, has quickly established itself as a monumental success, shattering records both domestically and internationally. According to trading site Sacnilk, the film has surpassed the historic Rs 1000 crore mark in gross collection in India, placing it in an elite category previously reserved for only three other films: “Baahubali 2: The Conclusion” (Rs 1417 crore), “KGF: Chapter 2” (Rs 1001 crore), and “Pushpa 2: The Rule” (Rs 1471.1 crore).

“Dhurandhar” holds the distinction of being the first Indian film to achieve over Rs 1000 crore in a single language, setting it apart from earlier record holders that benefitted from multi-language dubbed versions. As of its 56th day in theaters, the film’s net collection has reached Rs 835.6 crore, reflecting its widespread popularity and significant impact.

The film is inspired by true events and features Ranveer Singh in the lead role, where he portrays a character facing four of Pakistan’s most dangerous terrorists. While there has been speculation about the identities of these characters on social media, the filmmakers have not provided confirmations. The character played by Singh is believed to be inspired by Major Mohit Sharma, although the Censor Board has clarified that this is a work of fiction. “Dhurandhar” also explores the complex socio-political dynamics of various ethnic groups in Pakistan.

This project marks the return of director Aditya Dhar, known for his previous work on “Uri: The Surgical Strike,” which skillfully tackled themes of nationalism. “Dhurandhar” has emerged as the highest-grossing Hindi-language film to date, solidifying Dhar’s reputation in the industry.

The film boasts an impressive cast including Akshaye Khanna, Arjun Rampal, Sanjay Dutt, R. Madhavan, Sara Arjun, and Rakesh Bedi. Exciting news is on the horizon for fans, as details about the sequel, titled “Dhurandhar: The Revenge,” have been announced. Set to release on March 19, 2026, the sequel’s teaser has received an ‘A’ certification from the Central Board of Film Certification and runs for just over a minute, although details about its duration have yet to be revealed.

With the success of “Dhurandhar” and the anticipation building around its sequel, the film industry is witnessing a resurgence, as noted by Karan Johar who declared, “Bollywood Is Back,” following the back-to-back successes of “Dhurandhar” and “Border 2.” This optimistic sentiment reflects the growing excitement within the industry as filmmakers and audiences alike look forward to more compelling stories on the big screen.
