A parliamentary delegation from Fiji is set to join counterparts from Australia and New Zealand in Dharamshala, India, from December 9 to December 12, 2025, focusing on significant diplomatic and cultural engagements. The six-member delegation aims to foster dialogue surrounding Tibetan rights and explore ways to support Tibetan self-determination.
The visit includes an audience with His Holiness the Dalai Lama, where they will discuss pressing matters facing the Tibetan community. Key interactions are planned with leaders from the Central Tibetan Administration, including Sikyong Penpa Tsering and Khenpo Sonam Tenphel, the Speaker of the Tibetan Parliament-in-Exile. The delegation will also visit essential cultural and educational institutions within Dharamshala, further solidifying ties and understanding with Tibetan heritage.
A significant event will take place on December 10, coinciding with World Human Rights Day, as the delegation joins global Tibetans in commemorating the 36th anniversary of the Dalai Lama’s Nobel Peace Prize award. This occasion highlights the ongoing commitment of the delegates to human rights advocacy and Tibetan self-determination efforts.
The traveling group includes prominent figures such as Australian Greens Senator Barbara Pocock, Labor MP Sarah Witty, Independent MP Kate Chaney, New Zealand MPs Duncan Webb and Greg Fleming, alongside Fiji’s Independent MP Virendra Lal. This gathering exemplifies a collaborative approach to fostering international dialogue on human rights issues, showcasing a united front in support of the Tibetan cause.
