Phoenix Suns guard Devin Booker made waves on the court by unveiling his new “Book 2” signature shoe with Nike during a match against the Portland Trail Blazers. This debut comes after the successful launch of the Book 1 in February 2024, which showcased various colorways and styles.
Booker had hinted at the new shoe earlier in the day through Nike basketball’s social media, having been spotted in prototypes during the summer, though the initial images were kept under wraps. The anticipation surrounding the Book 2 reflects its connection to the Book 1, which received acclaim for its dual functionality as both a basketball shoe and a lifestyle sneaker.
Booker shared his design philosophy with Nike, stating, “A big thing for me was feeling the court and being a bit lower to the ground.” He drew inspiration from classic sneakers, notably the Air Zoom Spiridon. The initial colorways of the Book 2, named “Phoenix” and “Rising,” pay tribute to his hometown, featuring orange and black tones that fans can sport during games.
Set to be officially released in January 2026, the Book 2 showcases significant innovations. Ben Nethongkome, the lead designer, described how the shoe evolved, maintaining a classic exterior while embedding advanced technology within. The design includes a lower profile for improved court feel, lighter weight from the repositioned Air Zoom unit, and a combination of durable materials.
Key features include a cushioned midsole, foam sock liner, a modern upper with webbed mesh, and an outsole inspired by the classic Air Force 1. Booker’s personal creativity is evident, with depicted cacti designs among other illustrations.
Nike emphasized that the Book 2 offers a unique blend of sport and style, encapsulating Booker’s journey through his 11 seasons in Arizona and his impressive collegiate career. Following a significant contract extension this offseason, Booker’s influence extends beyond the game, as he continues to shape sports and style with his footwear line.
