Paula Veibau is redefining passion and purpose through his inspiring shift from a call center job to managing a flourishing farming enterprise. Originating from Yale, Kadavu, the ambitious young farmer now oversees six acres in Veisaru, Ba, where he grows various crops, including cassava, alongside 200 pearl guava trees and nearly 400 dragon fruit plants. His fresh produce reaches local markets and partners like Fresher Marketing on a weekly basis, taking advantage of the region’s rich agricultural conditions.
In 2023, Paula made the bold decision to embrace farming full-time, taking over the family land and stepping away from the traditional office environment. He reflects on his transformation, noting a newfound tranquility and fulfillment that his previous desk job never provided. “Farming is tough but honest work; and you see your results right there in the field,” Paula explains, showcasing the immediate rewards that come from hard work in agriculture.
The advantageous growing conditions in Ba have played a crucial role in the success of Paula’s crops, particularly his hand-pollinated dragon fruit and consistent supply of guava, both of which are in rising demand. His rapid ascent has positioned him as a mentor for young people in the community, sharing fundamental yet powerful advice: “Your body is your tool; keep it strong, make good use of your land, and it will look after you.”
In a broader context, the Ministry of Agriculture and Waterways is proactively encouraging landowners and families with underutilized land to explore farming, livestock production, and agro-business as promising avenues for income generation.
