Damon Wilson is set to join the Miami Hurricanes for his final year of eligibility following his tenure at Missouri. Reports indicate that the edge rusher has committed to the No. 2 ranked team after they narrowly lost to No. 1 Indiana in the College Football Playoff national championship game on January 19.

Wilson’s move to Miami marks the third program he has been associated with in as many seasons. The Hurricanes are known for their strong defensive performance this past season, ranking fifth in the nation for points allowed at 14.8 per game and twelfth in total yards surrendered, with an average of 294.1 yards per game. Miami’s defensive coordinator, Corey Hetherman, has shaped a formidable unit that includes projected first-round NFL draft picks Rueben Bain Jr. and Akheem Mesidor.

In his single season at Missouri, Wilson turned in a standout performance, compiling a total of 23 tackles, including 9.5 tackles for loss and nine sacks. He also achieved his first career interception against Vanderbilt, demonstrating his versatility on field.

Originally a highly regarded five-star recruit from high school as per 247Sports’ Composite rankings, Wilson started his collegiate journey at Georgia. During his two years with the Bulldogs, he amassed 26 tackles, 3.5 sacks, two forced fumbles, and two fumble recoveries, contributing to Georgia’s SEC championship victory in 2024.

The transition to Miami comes amidst ongoing legal disputes stemming from his transfer from Georgia. The Bulldogs filed a lawsuit against Wilson for $390,000 related to an alleged breach of contract with their former NIL collective, Classic City Collective. In response, Wilson countersued Georgia in late December.

According to 247Sports’ rankings, Wilson is recognized as a four-star recruit and holds the distinction of being the No. 8 player in the transfer portal, along with being the third-best edge rusher available. His addition to the Hurricanes marks a significant boost, as he is the fourth four-star recruit to join the program during the current offseason and becomes the seventh member of Miami’s expanding transfer class.

As Wilson joins a talented roster, Miami looks poised to strengthen their defense further and improve upon last season’s promising performance, fostering high expectations for the upcoming year.
