Golden State Warriors star guard Stephen Curry underwent an MRI on his right knee, revealing patellofemoral syndrome, commonly referred to as runner’s knee. The team announced on Saturday that he is day-to-day and his status for the upcoming game against the Philadelphia 76ers remains uncertain. Fortunately, the injury is not considered serious.

Curry experienced lingering knee pain that led him to leave Friday’s game against the Detroit Pistons in the third quarter without returning. He initially felt discomfort prior to the Warriors’ victory over the Minnesota Timberwolves and had previously missed a game due to knee soreness.

Head coach Steve Kerr acknowledged the ongoing dialogue with the team’s training staff regarding how best to manage Curry’s participation for the remainder of the season, emphasizing the need to find a balance between competing effectively and ensuring Curry’s health as they approach the All-Star break. Kerr stated, “You have to do both. That’s our job as a staff, as a team, to mix and match lineups… we’re constantly talking with Steph, checking in with him, seeing how he’s feeling.”

Despite the setback, Curry had a strong performance with 23 points in just 25 minutes during the loss to the Pistons and is averaging 27.3 points this season. Kerr noted the importance of monitoring Curry’s condition to determine if he can handle his regular workload or if it might be necessary for him to miss additional games in the future.

In addition to Curry’s situation, forward Jonathan Kuminga is reportedly improving as he recovers from a bone bruise in his knee, with Kerr mentioning that Kuminga is feeling better and has begun working out again. His status for Tuesday’s game remains unclear.

The Warriors also provided an update on Seth Curry, who is making “good progress” in his rehabilitation from a sciatica issue and has resumed on-court activities. The team expects to re-evaluate him in two weeks.

With the trade deadline approaching on February 5, Tuesday’s matchup with the 76ers will be crucial, providing the Warriors with an opportunity to assess their current lineup and prepare for potential roster adjustments. Fans remain hopeful that with prudent management, both Steph and the rest of the team can make a successful push in the second half of the season.
