Missiles and drones launched from Iran struck the Azerbaijani exclave of Nakhchivan on Thursday, igniting a fire in the area, as confirmed by a source close to the Azerbaijani government. An official statement regarding the incident is expected to be released soon. The precise number of missiles and drones that impacted the territory remains unclear.

Israeli media reported a video demonstrating an explosion occurring near a parking area adjacent to the Nakhchivan International Airport, located roughly 10 kilometers from the Iranian border. Additional video footage showed significant smoke billowing from the vicinity of the airport terminal. Notably, one drone reportedly crashed near a local school.

The Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry disclosed that two individuals sustained injuries during the attack, although no fatalities have been reported thus far. In response to the incident, the Azerbaijani government called in the Iranian ambassador and indicated its intention to consider “appropriate response measures” in light of the attacks.

This situation underscores the rising tensions in the region, particularly considering the historical context of relations between Azerbaijan and Iran. The Azerbaijani government’s firm stance may act as a deterrent to further incursions and highlights the need for diplomatic dialogue to ensure stability and security in the region.
