In a hard-fought match, the Creighton Women’s Basketball team emerged victorious over Seton Hall, winning 72-66 on Sunday, February 1, during the 2025-26 season. This victory marks a significant boost for the Bluejays, who improved their record to 10-12 overall and 6-7 within the BIG EAST conference. Conversely, Seton Hall now sits at 15-7 and 9-4 in conference play.
The game began with Seton Hall taking an early lead at 7-5, but the Bluejays quickly turned the tide, scoring nine consecutive points. Key contributions came from four different players, including driving layups that energized the team and a three-pointer by Townsend, followed by another layup from Ava, establishing a 14-7 lead by the 3:31 mark of the first quarter. By the end of the period, Creighton was up 21-15.
Throughout the match, the Bluejays maintained their edge, even as Seton Hall narrowed the gap during the second quarter. After a strong response from Creighton, highlighted by back-to-back three-pointers from Townsend and Gessert, the Bluejays went into halftime leading 45-39.
The third quarter saw a tight contest, with both teams exchanging points, leading to a 60-55 score for Creighton at the end of the frame. The Bluejays surged ahead in the fourth quarter, scoring seven consecutive points to extend their lead to 67-55 with just over five minutes remaining. However, Seton Hall fought back, managing to close the gap to just three points at 67-64 late in the game. Fortunately for Creighton, freshman Kendal McGee stepped up with two crucial free throws, and Zediker sealed the victory by making three of four attempts from the line in the final moments.
Heathcock led Creighton with 16 points, while Townsend and Gessert contributed 14 and 11 points, respectively. McGee rounded out a strong performance with 10 points. For Seton Hall, Jordana Codio was the standout scorer with 20 points, supported by Savannah Catalon’s 15 and Shailyn Pinkney’s 11.
Looking ahead, Creighton will continue its season with back-to-back home games against Georgetown on February 4 and Marquette on February 8, hoping to build on this positive momentum. The game against the Hoyas is set to start at 6:00 pm.
