This comes after months of discussions aimed at revitalizing the station’s lineup and improving ratings amid increasing competition in the New York media market.
This return would mark Carton’s third term at WFAN and his second time leading the afternoon slot, a key position that has built a strong legacy for the station. Under the planned changes, current hosts Evan Roberts and Tiki Barber are anticipated to shift to the 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. time block, which would place them in direct competition with ESPN New York’s midday show. This adjustment is part of the station’s broader effort to enhance advertiser interest and regain market momentum.
A new partnership for Carton appears to be in the works as well, with Chris McMonigle, the overnight host for WFAN, rumored to be the prominent candidate to join him on the show. McMonigle’s growing profile and connection with WFAN’s audience are seen as significant assets in this new lineup.
In prior comments, Carton expressed openness to returning to WFAN, highlighting his successful history with the station. “I made my name at WFAN. I’m blessed to be a New York radio hall of famer,” he stated. He acknowledged that discussions about his possible return were inevitable following his departure from FOX Sports after the cancellation of his show, Breakfast Ball.
Carton stated he would be willing to consider a return if it would not detract from his ongoing podcast venture, which he launched in September in collaboration with FOX Sports. He expressed enthusiasm for being able to manage both radio and podcasting if feasible.
