Colts Promote Laquon Treadwell as WR Depth Woes Persist

The Indianapolis Colts have officially signed wide receiver Laquon Treadwell from their practice squad to the 53-man roster. This decision comes as the team finds itself a bit compromised at the wide receiver position following the recent trade of AD Mitchell. With only five receivers on the active roster prior to the move, the situation worsened when Anthony Gould was ruled out for this week’s game, leaving just four available and healthy options.

The Colts had an open roster spot after placing defensive star DeForest Buckner on injured reserve, allowing for Treadwell’s addition without any necessary cuts. Although Treadwell has yet to see any offensive snaps this season, he has contributed on special teams, playing in two games as a practice squad elevation and logging 25 special teams snaps over the past weeks.

In addition to Treadwell’s promotion, the Colts are also elevating defensive end Durell Nchami and defensive tackle Tim Smith from the practice squad to bolster the team’s lineup amid ongoing injuries. Buckner’s absence, combined with Samson Ebukam and Tyquan Lewis also ruled out, underscored the need for depth in the defensive front. This will mark Nchami’s third elevation after participating in 31 defensive snaps over the last two weeks and registering one pressure. On the other hand, Smith, a sixth-round draft pick from this year’s class, is set for his first practice squad elevation.

The Colts are adapting to their challenging circumstances with strategic roster moves, showcasing their commitment to maintaining competitive play despite injury setbacks. Treadwell’s presence may provide additional options for the offense and special teams, as the team prepares for its upcoming matchup.
