Cleanup Underway at Pancake City After Kirksville Fire

Cleanup efforts are set to commence at a well-known Kirksville eatery, Pancake City, following a fire incident that prompted a swift response from local fire crews. On Tuesday evening, Kirksville Fire was alerted to flames inside the restaurant located on North Baltimore Street.

Upon arrival, KTVO reporters observed smoke billowing from the rear of the building. Firefighters quickly forced open a back door to access the flames, managing to extinguish the fire in a timely manner.

Chuck Lewellen, the owner of Pancake City, shared on Facebook the following day that the fire primarily damaged the dry storage and cooler areas, as well as sections of the kitchen. Fortunately, the main dining area only sustained smoke damage, which Lewellen indicated could be cleaned up without extensive difficulties. He noted that efforts to establish a timeline for the restaurant’s reopening would begin as soon as possible.

In an update, Kirksville Fire Chief Jon Cook revealed that the cause of the fire was linked to improperly discarded smoking materials, categorizing the incident as accidental.

As the community rallies around Pancake City, it is expected that with quick action and a dedicated cleanup, the beloved restaurant will be back up and running soon, continuing to serve its patrons.
