Claressa Shields Signs Record-Breaking $8M Deal to Shape Women’s Boxing

Boxing sensation Claressa Shields has made history by signing a landmark promotional contract worth $8 million (£6.1 million) with Salita Promotions and Wynn Records. Announced during a television appearance on Thursday, this unprecedented deal spans two years and marks the most lucrative contract ever in women’s boxing.

The two-time Olympic champion, who boasts an impressive record of 17 wins in 17 professional fights, including a historic victory over Savannah Marshall in 2022, is currently the undisputed heavyweight world champion. Reflecting on the significance of this contract, Shields stated, “This deal represents more than just a contract, it’s a statement.”

Shields has long championed the cause for women’s boxing, fighting for equal respect, pay, and opportunities within the sport. She expressed optimism about her partnership with Salita Promotions and Wynn Records, stating that it would empower her to continue breaking barriers both inside and outside the ring. “Together, we’re building something that’s never been done before,” she affirmed.

Promoter Dmitriy Salita echoed Shields’ sentiments, calling the deal a “groundbreaking step for women’s sports and for boxing.” He highlighted that Shields’ contract sets a new standard for how athletes can collaborate and build their careers, seeing her as a trailblazer in this endeavor.

The deal includes a minimum guarantee of $8 million, aligning Shields’ championship talent with the influential realms of music and culture. This partnership comes off the back of Shields’ recent bout in July, where she won a unanimous decision against Lani Daniels.

Looking ahead, Shields is expected to face Franchon Crews Dezurn, a fighter she defeated in her professional debut back in 2016. Additionally, the British welterweight world champion Lauren Price has expressed her desire to eventually compete against Shields, highlighting the growing interest in women’s boxing and the promising matchups on the horizon.

As women’s boxing continues to gain momentum and recognition, Claressa Shields’ landmark deal signifies a pivotal moment in the sport, showcasing that female athletes can make history and achieve extraordinary success.
