Athletes showcasing exceptional potential demonstrated their abilities at the Church College of Fiji’s inter-house athletics meet, which took place at the HFC Bank Stadium in Suva yesterday. This event signifies the school’s kickoff to the athletics season as they prepare for both the zonal athletics meet and the 2026 Fiji Finals, set to occur in the upcoming weeks.

Flora Dakuiyau, who leads the physical education, music, and art and craft (PEMAC) department, conveyed enthusiasm for the athletic season ahead, noting the promising talent on display. “We’ve been seeing a number of students who show great potential for the zone, so we’re quite excited,” Dakuiyau remarked.

The school has seen a surge in student enrollment, now reaching around 500, which has contributed to the emergence of new athletic talent. This growth has generated optimism as preparations for the zonal meet advance. Furthermore, Dakuiyau emphasized that students from last year’s elite squad, who participated in the esteemed Coca-Cola Games (also known as the Fiji Finals), have been rigorously training since the academic year commenced.

“Our elite squad, made up of students who competed last year, has remained dedicated to their training. Some have even been collaborating with additional coaches, and we expect them to achieve outstanding results,” she noted.

Adding to the excitement, the school is gearing up to celebrate its 50th anniversary this year, a milestone that motivates the athletes to give their best performance, fostering a sense of community pride as preparations for the upcoming celebrations intensify.

The inter-house meet wrapped up in the afternoon, leaving the school community filled with hope and vigor for the challenges and competitions that lie ahead. The strong commitment from both faculty and students highlights a bright future for athletics at the Church College of Fiji, setting the stage for rewarding achievements this season.
