Patients at Tavua Hospital experienced a joyful Christmas celebration with a traditional lovo feast, organized by the hospital’s Nutrition team. Supervisor Dietitian Amir Begum highlighted the initiative’s dual purpose of nourishing both the body and spirit during the festive season.
In a heartfelt social media post, Begum reflected on the significance of the meals prepared for the patients, stating, “This Christmas, our Nutrition Team had the privilege of preparing meals that brought both comfort and celebration to our patients.” She emphasized that in Fiji, the lovo—a traditional earth-oven feast—is a profound way to commemorate the season, symbolizing togetherness, culture, and the joy of sharing.
“The lovo is a symbol of community, care, and tradition,” she noted. By incorporating this culturally significant practice into the hospital setting, the team aimed to provide patients with a warm and festive experience that resonated with Fijian values, emphasizing the importance of women’s leadership and teamwork.
Begum also expressed her gratitude to the hospital staff who worked diligently throughout the holiday period, contributing to the special celebration and ensuring that patients felt the warmth and joy of Christmas. This initiative not only lifted spirits but also highlighted the importance of community and cultural heritage in healthcare settings.
