CHATTANOOGA (January 6, 2026) — The Chattanooga Mocs men’s basketball team is gearing up for an important home game at McKenzie Arena on Wednesday night against Southern Conference rival Furman. The match is slated to start at 5 p.m. ET and will be broadcasted on CBS Sports Network.

Chattanooga, with a record of 6-9 overall and 0-2 in Southern Conference play, is aiming to turn things around after suffering two tough losses on the road last week. The Mocs narrowly lost to UNCG 77-72 despite leading by five points late in the game, and then fell 79-71 against VMI after battling back from a substantial 19-point deficit. This 0-2 start in the conference marks the first occurrence of this for the Mocs since the 2020-21 season.

Furman comes into the game with a 10-5 record overall and 1-1 in the SoCon after having their six-game winning streak snapped in a dramatic 80-77 overtime loss to Western Carolina on Saturday. They managed to secure a close 74-72 victory against Mercer in their league opener.

As the Mocs prepare for this pivotal matchup, they are looking to avoid their fifth-ever 0-3 start in Southern Conference history, a situation that has only occurred four times in the program’s 48 seasons in the league, with the last instance noted in the 2017-18 season.

The Mocs are particularly focused on improving their shooting performance. CTU currently ranks 61st nationally in effective field goal percentage at 55.7%, while shooting 48.0% from the floor overall. One standout for the team, a big man whose status remains a game-time decision, leads all NCAA Division I players with an impressive shooting percentage of 81.2%.

Meanwhile, a true freshman guard has emerged as a bright spot for the team despite missing some games due to injury. He leads all SoCon freshmen with 28 three-pointers made this season and is sixth among all conference rookies in scoring, averaging 9.2 points per game.
