Central Arkansas Braces for Monday Wintry Mix

Confidence is growing regarding a wintry mix that is set to impact Central Arkansas on Monday, December 1. This date marks the beginning of Meteorological Winter, and residents will experience their first taste of winter weather to kick off the month.

A Weather Impact Alert has been issued for Monday, December 1, as the National Weather Service has also placed a Winter Weather Advisory in effect from 6 a.m. Monday until 6 a.m. Tuesday.

Forecasts predict snow and sleet accumulations reaching a few tenths of an inch, particularly in northern Arkansas. Additionally, light ice accumulations ranging from a glaze to one-tenth of an inch are expected, with isolated areas possibly seeing up to two-tenths of an inch. These conditions are most likely to affect central, west, north, and northeast Arkansas.

While meteorological models, including the GRAF and HRRR, agree on the timing of the wintry weather, they show some discrepancies in terms of the type and specific locations of the precipitation.

Temperatures during the onset of precipitation will be near freezing, with daytime highs expected to be in the low to mid-30s. It is unlikely that temperatures will rise above 40 degrees Fahrenheit until Tuesday afternoon.

Although this event is not expected to develop into a significant winter storm, it remains crucial to monitor the situation, as any winter precipitation event in Arkansas warrants attention. Residents are encouraged to stay tuned to THV11 for continuous updates on this developing weather situation.
