A celebration of life is set for Saturday, November 15, to honor Mitchell “Mitch” G. Wrenn, a respected father, criminal defense attorney, and devoted Corvette enthusiast. Wrenn, a resident of Daytona Beach, passed away on September 20 at the age of 61 after battling an illness.

The event will be held from 2 to 4:30 p.m. at the Piggotte Community Center located at 504 Big Tree Road in South Daytona. In recognition of his commitment to his clients, Wrenn designated Donovan Huseman as his inventory attorney. Huseman will oversee Wrenn’s legal files and ensure the rights of his clients are protected as they seek new representation.

Huseman, who shared office space with Wrenn from January 2008 to June 2014, spoke highly of his former colleague’s legal prowess. “Mitch was extremely knowledgeable about the rules; he was the one I would call with questions,” Huseman recalled. Known for his warm interactions, Wrenn was well-regarded by both judges and peers, particularly in criminal law, which was his area of expertise.

Wrenn leaves behind his son, Jackson, who recently celebrated his 24th birthday. Huseman noted how much Wrenn cherished fatherhood. Additionally, Wrenn’s passion for Chevrolet Corvettes was evident, as he owned two: one newer model and a classic from 1972.

His contributions to the legal community were recognized by Circuit Judge Leah Case, who appointed Wrenn as a traffic hearing officer for the 7th Circuit earlier this year. Expressing her sadness at his passing, she remarked on Wrenn’s unique ability to communicate with clients and provide exceptional legal representation, making him a valuable asset to the legal community.

Retired Circuit Judge Raul Zambrano also shared heartfelt sentiments about Wrenn, describing him as an excellent trial lawyer who consistently went above and beyond for his clients. The former president of the Volusia County chapter of the Florida Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, Matt Thompson, also remembered Wrenn fondly as a knowledgeable and helpful figure who was always willing to offer guidance.

Seventh Circuit Public Defender Matt Metz echoed these sentiments, highlighting Wrenn as a tireless advocate for his clients and the Constitution, noting that he will be greatly missed.

The celebration of life not only serves to commemorate Mitch Wrenn’s legacy but also to reflect on the positive impact he made on those around him, both personally and professionally.
