Keane’s remark, made during an appearance on the Stick to Football podcast, suggested that due to her outspoken nature, Lisa might be involved in team discussions. This was a pointed reference to a past dispute between Keane and Lisa Carrick dating back to February 2014, after which she publicly criticized Keane for his comments about Michael’s performance following a Champions League defeat.
In response to Keane’s remarks, Carrick stated that he is not bothered by them. He emphasized that he does not feel additional pressure from commentary by Keane, Gary Neville, or other former United stars who work in media. “It’s just part of it. I understand the role,” he said, highlighting the need to concentrate on the responsibilities of coaching rather than external opinions. He remains focused on fostering team success, stating, “For me and the players and the staff, it’s a focus on how we’re going to succeed.”
Carrick’s first game back at the helm will be on Saturday in the highly anticipated Manchester derby at Old Trafford. With United currently positioned seventh in the Premier League and out of both the Carabao Cup and FA Cup, Carrick expressed that success this season means improving individual players. He believes that enhancing player performance will naturally lead to a stronger team.
When asked about expectations from club executives Omar Berrada and Jason Wilcox, Carrick shared that there are no rigid demands, but there is a mutual goal of striving for a higher league position. “We want to be near the top of the league; we’ve got to take some small steps towards that,” he said. Achieving European football is also regarded as a significant step forward for the club.
