An idyllic destination, referred to as the “Caribbean without the jetlag,” has emerged as a top contender for winter sun escapes. This charming location provides the perfect antidote to the grim British weather, with pints priced at just £2.20, making it an ideal getaway.

According to an index that evaluates winter sun hotspots based on factors such as temperature, sunshine hours, meal prices, pint costs, time zone differences, and precipitation, Sal in Cape Verde has claimed the title of the best winter sun destination for Brits. The Atlantic island offers stunning white sandy beaches and subtropical temperatures, with winter highs averaging between 24°C and 25°C from January to March, all while maintaining only a one-hour time difference from the UK despite the six-hour flight. Visitors can bask in roughly 10 hours of sunshine each day, as highlighted by easyJet’s Winter Sun Index.

Culinary enthusiasts will be pleased to know that the island’s cuisine is a delightful blend of Portuguese, African, and Brazilian influences, with meals for two costing around £30.

Following closely in the rankings is Hurghada in Egypt, where winter temperatures range between 21°C and 25°C. Here, travelers can find pints of beer averaging under £2. This resort town is celebrated for its endless sunshine, crystal-clear waters, and diverse desert landscapes that offer thrilling activities including quad biking and Jeep safaris.

The Canary Islands remain popular choices as well, with Gran Canaria and Lanzarote securing the third and fourth positions, respectively. Gran Canaria is famed for its golden beaches, while Lanzarote impresses visitors with its remarkable black sands and volcanic scenery.

Kevin Doyle, the UK country manager for easyJet, commented on the findings: “As temperatures at home begin to drop and the days get darker, now is the perfect time to book an escape to warmer climes. Our network and package holidays offer a broad range of winter sun destinations across Europe and beyond – from Sub-Saharan islands to Spanish peninsula cities.”

Other notable mentions from the index include Agadir in Morocco, which enjoys winter highs of 23°C and nearly nine hours of sunshine each day, with meals for two priced at approximately £26, and pints costing just £1.75. Djerba, off the coast of Tunisia, combines cultural richness and relaxation, with winter temperatures hovering between 16°C and 18°C and up to eight hours of sunshine. Here, a meal for two also costs around £26, while a pint is an attractive £1.30.

Finally, Seville, recognized as Europe’s warmest city in winter, stands out not only for its elegant Moorish architecture but also for its vibrant city life, with temperatures ranging from 16°C to 22°C. The city enjoys around eight hours of sunshine and offers pints for merely £2.20, presenting a fantastic option for those who crave warmth alongside cultural exploration.

With so many appealing choices for winter getaways, travelers looking for sunshine, great food, and affordable prices have an abundance of destinations to consider, promising an enjoyable escape from the cold.
